Goen Japan · Harajuku to Asakusa

Meiji Jingu, Tsukiji and Senso-ji

A Goen Japan guide meets you in Harajuku and takes a small group by train to Meiji Jingu, the Tsukiji outer market and finally Senso-ji, where you spend about an hour. It's the way to see three of Tokyo's classic sights in one morning, and learn the subway while you're at it.

Tokyo Morning Tour: Meiji Shrine, Market & Senso-ji

About this experience

Goen Japan's morning tour has 257 reviews at 4.9 stars. It starts in front of the UNIQLO store in Harajuku, walks into the forest of Meiji Jingu, then rides the subway to the Tsukiji outer market for a snack, and ends in Asakusa. Groups are capped at 8. Guests mention the guide writing their wishes in Japanese on prayer plaques, and help with the trains.

Senso-ji gets the most time of any stop: about 60 minutes, including Nakamise. The listing names "Entry/Admission - Senso-ji Temple" as an inclusion. Ignore that: entry to Senso-ji costs nothing, for everyone, all day. You are paying for the guide, the route and the company. Some guides finish with Hoppy Street or a sushi recommendation.

Two costs are not in the price: your train fares, about 550 yen, and whatever you eat at the market. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. Senso-ji is the last stop, so you reach it late in the morning, when Nakamise is filling up.

What guests say

★★★★★

She explained all the customs really well so we felt confident in participating in the temples, she also offered to write our wishes in Japanese so the Japanese gods can read them when we hung them on the trees!

Tips before you book

  • Eat a light breakfast. The market comes in the middle and the snacks are worth the space.
  • Wear shoes you can walk in for four hours, with stairs at the stations.
  • Stay in Asakusa after the tour ends: lunch, the river, or a rickshaw ride.
