Sunrise Adventure · Kaminarimon, Asakusa
A small studio near Kaminarimon dresses you in a full kimono set, keeps your bags, and sends you out to spend the day at Senso-ji in it. There is no guide, and that's the point: the temple, Nakamise and the river at your own pace, in the photos you wanted.

Sunrise Adventure is a small rental studio with 52 reviews at 4.9. It sits on the third floor of the Funaki Building, a brown brick-style block with white stripes opposite the APA Hotel Asakusa Kaminarimon. You choose a kimono, obi, sandals and a small bag, and the staff dress you. One group of three was dressed in about 30 minutes. Your own clothes and bags stay at the shop.
Then you're on your own. The listing suggests Kaminarimon, Nakamise, the main hall, Hozomon, Yogodo, Asakusa Shrine, Nitemmon, the free 8th-floor deck of the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center and Azuma Bridge. That's the whole of Senso-ji, and you have as long as you like there, since the temple costs nothing. Ask the staff for the return time when you're dressed.
The $31 covers the basic set. Hairstyling, a tea ceremony and a rickshaw ride cost extra and are paid at the shop. Plus sizes go up to Japanese 5L (about US/EU 2XL to 3XL); the rental is not for people over 210 cm or 160 kg, nor for pregnant women. Wearing kimono at Senso-ji is common and welcome. Want it explained? Pair the rental with a guided walk.

★★★★★We were the only two in the studio (which was great because it was a cozy place). The shop worker helped get us dressed in our beautiful kimonos and styled our hair to perfection!
★★★★★Our kimonos were beautiful and we received so many compliments. There were plenty options to choose from. It was a bit difficult to find her actual location but once we did, everything was a breeze.
