Booking choice: The Asakusa rickshaw ride, from $39 per person. Check dates Tour details
The rickshaw price looks simple until you compare it. Viator shows a per-person price. The stand by Kaminarimon shows a price per rickshaw. A rickshaw seats two adults. Mix those up and you will think one option costs half what it does.
Below, both price lists side by side, from Ebisuya's own Asakusa page and the live Viator listing for the same company, checked in October 2026.
The quick answer
On Viator the Ebisuya ride costs $39 per person for 30 minutes, so about $78 for two. At the stand, Ebisuya charges 5,000 yen per rickshaw for two adults for a 12-minute ride (walk-up only) and 10,000 yen for 30 minutes, plus 1,000 yen for an English-speaking puller. A rickshaw takes two adults; children 5 and under ride free on a lap.

How much is a rickshaw ride in Asakusa?
From $39 per person for 30 minutes on Viator. At the stand, from 5,000 yen per rickshaw for two adults for about 12 minutes.
Ebisuya, the company behind the Viator listing, publishes its stand prices including tax. The short 12-minute ride is walk-up only: you cannot reserve it. Everything from 30 minutes up can be booked ahead, online or at the stand.
Prices rise roughly in step with time, so longer rides are not cheaper per minute. You pay for what you want to see: a quick photo loop, or a ride out to the quiet shrines.
Thirty minutes, an English-speaking puller and your photos taken for you, booked to the minute.
Check dates for the Asakusa rickshaw rideIs the Viator rickshaw price per person or per rickshaw?
Per person. Two adults sharing one rickshaw pay twice the listed price; the stand price is per rickshaw.
Every length, both ways. Viator prices are per person for Monday 26 October 2026; stand prices are Ebisuya's own, per rickshaw.
| Length | Viator, per person | Viator, two adults | Stand, 2 adults | Stand, 1 adult |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 min | n/a | n/a | 5,000 yen (walk-up only) | 4,000 yen |
| 30 min | $39 | $78 | 10,000 yen | 9,000 yen |
| 45 min | $57 | $114 | 15,000 yen | 13,000 yen |
| 60 min | n/a | n/a | 20,000 yen | 16,000 yen |

| 180 min | See listing | See listing | 60,000 yen with a souvenir | 50,000 yen |
Stand prices for 70 to 120 minutes are the 60-minute price plus Ebisuya's published add-on of 3,000 yen per extra 10 minutes for two (2,500 yen for one). Go Tokyo's listing gives the same starting price: 5,000 yen for two, 4,000 yen for one.
Is it cheaper to book online or at the stand?
It depends on the exchange rate. Thirty minutes for two is about $78 on Viator against 11,000 yen at the stand with an English-speaking puller: the same money at about 142 yen to the dollar, and the stand is cheaper above that.
The stand adds small fees the Viator price already covers: 1,000 yen per rickshaw for a puller who speaks a language other than Japanese, 1,000 yen to request a specific puller, and a drop-off fee from 1,000 yen if you finish far from the stand.
What booking ahead buys: a confirmed slot and an English-speaking guide on a busy day, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The listing warns that a second rickshaw for a larger group may not be available on the day with an English-speaking puller. Walking up suits the 12-minute ride and quiet weekdays. Pay at the stand by cash, card or digital wallet; it is east of Kaminarimon on Kaminarimon-dori and opens from 9:30 until evening.

Lock in an English-speaking puller for your date, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Two adults at most. Up to two children aged 5 and under can ride free on the adults' laps.
- Width: the seat is 74 cm (29.1 inches) wide, per the listing, and two adults sit snug. For larger passengers the operator suggests one rickshaw each.
- Children: adult pricing from age 6. A child of 5 or under is free on a lap, but pays as an adult if they take a seat. Bring a baby carrier for small children.
- Groups: several rickshaws ride together. A family of six with four children took three, and called it "quite the parade!"
- Not recommended for pregnant travellers.
One guest worried about fitting with a friend: "It was snug, but we were comfortable."
Where does an Asakusa rickshaw ride go?
Around the temple, not into it: rickshaws are not allowed in the Senso-ji grounds or on Nakamise. Short rides loop past the gates; longer ones reach quiet shrines most visitors never see.
The route is customisable, so tell your puller what you want. Stops on the Viator itinerary include:
- Short rides (30 to 45 min): past Nitenmon gate, the Denboin garden, Denboin-dori, Tanuki-dori, Hanayashiki and the Rokku theatre streets, with photo stops.
- Longer rides (70 min and up): across to Sumida Park and the river, the Asahi Beer building and Skytree views, Matsuchiyama Shoden, a temple decorated with daikon radishes, and Imado Shrine, known for its pairs of beckoning cats. Ushijima Shrine is on the list too.
The listing notes that not every landmark fits a short ride. One guest on a 90-minute ride with a teenager: "We visited a shrine and a temple where we got out and went to the structures".

Which rickshaw ride length should you book?
Thirty minutes for photos and a first taste; 70 to 90 minutes if you want to stop at the shrines and get out.
Thirty minutes covers the old streets and a few photo stops near the temple. It is the best value. One guest took the 30-minute ride with a three-year-old, who fell asleep on the way: "we were able to sit back and relax".
Book 70 or 90 minutes if the quiet shrines interest you. Two hours or more is a private sightseeing tour on wheels, priced like one.

From $39 per person: 30 minutes to 3 hours with a puller-guide, rated 5.0 by more than 1,400 guests.
Explore the Asakusa rickshaw ride Tour detailsIs an Asakusa rickshaw ride worth it?
Yes if you want photos of yourself in old Asakusa and stories on the way. No if you mainly want to see the temple, which a rickshaw cannot enter.
Guests praise two things over and over: the pullers' energy and the photos. "Best way to see Asakusa and save your feet! Guide was fresh and fun and took photos with enthusiasm," wrote one. Another: "We stayed in Asakusa and had already walked around the area but the tour highlighted things we had not even noticed."
Pair it with the temple on foot: walk Senso-ji first, then ride. Kimono renters often add one, and the kimono rental guide explains how.

What should you know before your rickshaw ride?
Meet at exit 1 of the Ginza Line's Asakusa Station, at the stand marked EBISUYA. Tips are not included, and finishing far from the stand costs extra.
- Meeting point: outside exit 1 of Asakusa Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. Exit A1 is the wrong one, the listing warns, and other companies run stands nearby.
- Language: choose English at checkout. English-speaking pullers are subject to availability.
- Not included: gratuities, hotel pickup, food and drinks.
Book the length you want, meet at exit 1, and let the puller do the running.
